During the second Test match at the Wankhede in Mumbai, the fans were heard reciting former Indian batsman, Sachin Tendulkar’s name after Shubman Gill smashed Tim Southee for a boundary.

In the 37th over of India’s second innings bowled by Southee, Gill was tired of the short ball ploy and made room to pull the ball towards the mid-wicket boundary. The fielder put in a futile effort and the crowd was overjoyed as it was Gill’s first boundary.

Soon after, chants of “Sachin… Sachin…” reverberated throughout the grounds. The 48-year-old Tendulkar played his final match, incidentally his 200th Test match, for India at the Wankhede against West Indies back in 2013.

India continued to boss the game on Day 3 as Mayank Agarwal scored another fifty in the second innings. He put on a 100-run stand for India with Cheteshwar Pujara, who also spent some good time out in the middle ahead of the South Africa tour.

Both the openers were dismissed by none other than Ajaz Patel, who took his tally in the game to 12 wickets. He continues to look like the most threatening bowler for the Kiwis, who have resorted to bouncers considering the surface isn’t supporting the pacers as much.

Virat Kohli and Gill were at the crease in the latest development and India’s lead was inching closer to the 400-run mark.
