Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja sent Rahul Tripathi’s bails for a toss during their match here in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are aiming for a win which will send them into third place on the points table.
Eoin Morgan decided to bat first after winning the toss in steaming hot conditions in Abu Dhabi. The feisty opening duo of Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer once again had the responsibility of providing a good start to the team in the powerplay.
They started the first over well before a major mix-up saw Gill walk back to the hut. Iyer and Rahul Tripathi built a 40-run partnership before the former was sent back by Shardul Thakur. Morgan’s struggles continued with the bat as he went after a miserable knock of 8 off 14 balls.
Tripathi continued his charge and looked like the only batsman acclimatized to the conditions. He was striking above 135 but his innings was cut short just five runs short of a second consecutive fifty. Jadeja, who was very economical on the day, claimed the prized wicket of Tripathi.
He bowled a trademark arm-ball but with some extra zip on it. Tripathi attempted a reverse sweep but he was beaten by the pace on the ball. By the time he got his bat down for the shot, the bails were knocked off and a well-measured knock of 45 off 33 balls came to an end.
Tripathi hit four fours and one six in his innings. The wicket brought the dangerous Andre Russell to the crease. KKR was 104/4 in 14 overs after the latest development and they need a total in excess of 160 to put up a fight against the strong batting lineup of CSK.
