Watch: Rohit Sharma Asks Virat Kohli To Re-Enter Ground So That Team India Can Give Him A Guard Of Honour

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was seen gesturing to Virat Kohli, asking him to re-enter the ground ahead of Sri Lanka’s innings so that the Indian team can give Kohli a guard of honor.
Kohli is playing in his 100th Test match for India, only the 12th Indian player to achieve the feat. He scored a fluent 45 in India’s first innings before being dismissed by a peach from Lasith Embuldeniya.
After India declared the innings on 574/8 courtesy of a stunning 175* from Ravindra Jadeja, the home team players gathered around in a huddle, planning to give Kohli a guard of honor in his milestone Test.

The 33-year-old Kohli had already walked out before Rohit asked him to re-enter. It was a wonderful gesture from the Indian team soon after, letting Kohli soak in the atmosphere at a vocal PCA stadium in Mohali.

Prior to the start of the game on Day 1, Kohli was felicitated by Team India head coach, Rahul Dravid. He was given a special cap to commemorate the occasion, a feat he is quite proud of, especially in modern-day cricket which has three formats and an IPL.

During his knock of 45, Kohli also surpassed 8000 runs in Test cricket. He is only the sixth Indian player to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, and Virender Sehwag.
The game also marks Sri Lanka’s 300th Test in cricket history and also Rohit Sharma’s first Test as the captain of the Indian team.
