Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18: Sheldon Jackson Ruled Out Due To Hamstring Tear

Saurashtra have suffered a big blow in their Vijay Hazare Trophy tourney as Sheldon Jackson, their opening batsman, has been ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring tear. The news was confirmed by the cricketer himself on social media –

Jackson suffered the injury during Saurashra’a first game of the tournament against Chhattisgarh where he scored 106 runs before retiring. He suffered cramps while batting and left the field soon. Saurashtra were hopeful of Jackson getting fit but he was officially ruled out of the tournament, yesterday (February 6).

Courtesy Jackson’s hundred, Saurashtra posted a big total of 286/7 on the board in their first game. Cheteshwar Pujara too played a good inning of 60 from 92 balls. Chhattisgarh tried their level best to chase down the total but ended on 254/9 at the end of the 50 overs.

Saurashtra will be facing Jammu and Kashmir in their next game sans Sheldon Jackson.

The right-handed batsman has played a total of 55 first-class, 39 List A, and 41 T20 games. He has been part of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. He has played four IPL games, which came last year in 2017.

In this year’s auction though, Jackson went found no buyers and went unsold.

Coming to Saurashtra side, their contest against Jammu and Kasmir would be the last game of the tournament for Jaydev Unadkat, who has to fly to South Africa for the T20I series. He was named in the squad for the domestic tournament for a couple of games.

He will be flying to South Africa along with KL Rahul and Suresh Raina. Rahul was also named in Karnataka squad for the first two games of the tournament while Raina is not playing the tournament as he is in NCA, working on his fitness.

These three players will fly to South Africa for the T20I series while Kedar Jadhav, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Shami will return to India as they are not a part of the T20I side. They can also be available for their state team if their teams qualify for the second round of Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The three T20Is of the series will be played on February 18, 21 and 24.
