Over the past few years, the Indian Team’s fielding standards have grown by leaps and bounds. The likes of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have inculcated the benchmark for the highest fielding standards needed to excel in every form of the game. Predominantly, Virat Kohli’s rise as captain has given rise to many candidates following him on the path of pulling off some outstanding catches and run-outs. But when asked as to who is team India’s best fielder, Kohli was quick to respond to settle the debate.

The 31-year old Kohli has set lofty standards not only in terms of run-scoring but also for athleticism on the field. As far as fielding is concerned, Ravindra Jadeja deserves equal credit for upgrading his teammates’ zing on the ground while fielding. The Saurashtra all-rounder’s commitment in every department of the game has yielded good returns.
When it comes to direct hits, only a few batsmen try and take him on. When fielding at backward point, Jadeja’s pinpoint shy at the stumps often end up hitting them, which helps the team pull off wickets at crucial junctures. Captain Kohli, who himself respects him, took his name without an iota of doubt while responding to a question over social media.
Virat Kohli settles the debate of India’s best fielder firmly:
It all ensued when the official Instagram account of Star Sports asked fans to pick between Jadeja and Kohli by posting the question, “If you had one shot at hitting the stumps to save your life, who would you choose to throw for you – Jaddu or Virat?”. While the fans may have had their doubts, not Kohli, Virat was quick to answer that he would choose Ravindra Jadeja at all times, if such a situation arises.
Earlier, Indian team’s fielding coach R Sridhar termed the Indian southpaw as the best fielder of the decade. Sridhar admitted that Jadeja could keep the counterpart at their toes with his energetic presence on the field.
“He is someone who can keep the opposition on their toes with his fielding. He has an intimidating presence on the field. I wouldn’t like to go very far but in the last decade or so Jadeja has been the best fielder India has had.” Sridhar said as quoted by Times Now.
