Virat Kohli has made run-scoring look easy and as a result drawn some serious parallels with cricket legend and his idol Sachin Tendulkar. At the 2019 World Cup, Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the quickest to reach 11000 ODI runs. He took 222 innings to achieve the feat while Tendulkar made it in 276 innings.
Kohli has broken record for fun in the modern-era which makes him a close contender to surpass Tendulkar’s tally of a century of centuries. Tendulkar made it possible to achieve the distinction in a long and successful career of 24 years. While talking about the possibility of Kohli breaking Tendulkar’s record, certain possibilities should be kept in mind, with one thing being certain that the India captain might not play as long as the master blaster did.
If Virat Kohli can play as long as Sachin Tendulkar then he might achieve the record: Irfan Pathan
Virat Kohli has scored 43 centuries in the ODIs, standing six short to equal Tendulkar’s tally. However, as far as the century of centuries in concerned, former India fast bowler believes it will not be easy for Kohli to achieve it. It will only be possible if he could play as long as Tendulkar did.
“I wish but it is difficult. In ODI’s it is possible but 100 hundreds is not easy. It depends on his fitness and longevity, if Virat can play as long as Sachin did then he might be able to achieve it,” Irfan Pathan said during a live chat on Sports Tak.
