Virat Kohli has done exceedingly well as captain especially in Tests since taking over from the legendary MS Dhoni. The current skipper had a gigantic shoe to fill when he became the captain but so far, he has exceeded all the expectations. On Sunday, he led India to their biggest victory over South Africa in Tests.
Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten double century as India thrashed South Africa by an innings and 137 runs. In the process, India clinched the three-match series with a match to go. India also registered their eleventh consecutive series win at home and broke Australia’s record of most consecutive series wins at home.
And as Virat Kohli goes on to enhance his reputation as a captain, former Australia allrounder Shane Watson has said he cannot see any reason why the current Indian team could replicate the dominance of the Australian team led by Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting.
“He (Kohli) has done a great job with the Indian team. He has been playing so well in all formats. Whatever he is doing right now is certainly working and the team is responding to his leadership,” said Watson
“It is going to be hard to replicate..but there is no reason why India can’t do it. There is no doubt that India has got the depth in all facets… batting, bowling and fielding. The depth in Indian cricket is incredibly strong. It has got the luxury of having someone like a Rohit Sharma opening the batting and scoring lots of runs. The depth in Indian cricket is incredible… I am sure this team can win away from home as well,” he added.
India, meanwhile, are at the top of ICC Test Rankings of over two years now. They are also at the top of the ICC Test Championship table, having won all of their four games thus far.
