Ashish Nehra, the former Indian bowler-turned commentator, has played under a plethora of Indian captains, starting from Mohammad Azharuddin to Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and then finally Virat Kohli.

Nehra recently appeared on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’ where he explained the difference between the leadership styles of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

MS Dhoni is widely regarded as ‘captain cool’ purely for his ability to stay calm even in the direst of situations. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, is a complete contrast from his predecessor, someone who wears his heart on his sleeve.

But does not mean MS Dhoni wasn’t aggressive?

Ashish Nehra does not think so. The former Indian pacer said that even though Dhoni wasn’t quite expressive on the cricket field, it doesn’t mean that he was not aggressive.

Nehra said that the only difference between Dhoni and Virat Kohli is that the latter is a lot more expressive when it comes to showcasing his emotions on the cricket field.

“…Its not that MS Dhoni was quite, it doesn’t mean he wasn’t aggressive. Virat Kohli is someone who shows his emotions on the field, which works for him,” Ashish Nehra said on ‘Cricket Connected’

Ashish Nehra also reckoned that Kohli’s aggression helps laidback characters like Mohammed Shami, who at times need to be pushed so that they can perform at full throttle.

“Virat Kohli is that sort of a guy who helps Mohammed Shami raise the bar. Shami is someone who needed to be pushed and Virat did that. He likes his players on the toes,” he added.
