Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah Likely To Be Rested For Windies Tour
Indian skipper Virat Kohli and gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah are likely to be rested for the forthcoming tour of the West Indies. Earlier it was reported that both of these talisman players will be rested from white ball series. However, now the news comes that both of them are likely to be rested for the whole tour of the Carribean.
India is scheduled to play three T20 Internationals, three One Day Internationals and two Test matches against Jason Holder-led side. In fact, the two Test matches will commence India’s campaign for the Test championship for the cycle of 2019-21. The final of the Test championship will be played at the Mecca of Cricket, Lord’s in 2021.
Bumrah and Kohli have played continuously.
Both of these players have played regular cricket in the last six months and they are expected to get the much-needed break from the game. Subsequently, in Kohli’s absence, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team in the two Test matches. Similarly, Rohit Sharma, who is the top-scorer of the World Cup, will hold the captaincy reins in absence of Virat Kohli in ODI and T20I format.
Meanwhile, the Indian team will return back home on 14th July after they were knocked out from the World Cup following defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the semifinal.
The decision on MS Dhoni is to be taken.
“Kohli and Bumrah are going to miss the T20s and ODIs for sure but the selectors are also thinking to rest them for the two Tests in the West Indies. They are important players for the team and the team management and selection committee wants them to stay fresh for the home season ahead. They have already had a hectic season in the past one year,” sources in the BCCI informed.
Meanwhile, the decision on MS Dhoni is yet to be taken. The former skipper is under the scanner as his power-hitting abilities are on the wane. Furthermore, it is reported that Dhoni can announce his retirement any time soon. The chief selector MSK Prasad will have a talk with the team before announcing the squad.
