India failed miserably to do what the cricket fans especially Indian ones were expecting from them. After India drove the T20 series towards victory against England, Indian fans were expecting a similar show.
In the third and final ODI played at Leeds, England, India could not provide a respectable score on board considering the batting form of England. England while winning the toss opted to bowl first and bowlers proved it a right call from Morgan.
Summary of the match
India lost opening batsman, Rohit Sharma early on when the team was expecting to put a reasonable total. Rohit failed catastrophically as the fans were expecting a “Hit-Man” similar to that of the previous decider.
Rohit walked towards the pavilion on the team score of 13. Shikar Dhawan and Virat Kohli were rotating the strike on regular basis followed by a miss judgment between the two as Dhawan got run out on 44.
Dinesh Karthik who replaced KL Rahul could only score 21 before Adil Rashid castled him. Adil bowled an unplayable delivery to skipper Kohli when he was on 71. MS Dhoni scored much-needed 42 off 66 balls.
Shardul Thakur played a short cameo as he remained not out on 22 off 13 balls as India put a target of 257. In reply to the total set by India, England got through a flier courtesy, Jonny Bairstow. He played a flying knock of 30 off 13 balls.
Thakur gave this breakthrough to India. Soon after that, Indian bowlers depressed skipper Kohli completely as they never produce any threat for English batsmen. Joe Root scores his second consecutive ton followed by Eoin Morgan who scored unbeaten 88. England defeated India by 8 wickets.

Virat Kohli looked dejected after the match however, he backed up his team in this difficult situation. This is what skipper Kohli said after the match.
“We were never up to the mark as far as runs were concerned. We had 25-30 runs too little. England was clinical in all departments and thoroughly deserved to win. We need to be at our best against a team like England. The pitch was slow throughout the day which was surprising, not damp, just slow. Against the new ball, it was two-paced but slow with the spinners. Haven’t seen pitches like that here before. The bowlers did well, especially their spinners who didn’t get greedy and contained the runs before getting wickets eventually. We thought Dinesh did well, but he couldn’t convert his start, so I don’t regret the batting order changes. Shardul was meant to get some exposure, and Bhuvi needed to make a comeback. When the changes don’t come off, they look unnecessary so it must be taken in our stride. This kind of games will tell us what we need to improve upon for the World Cup. We need to have a good balance in the side, and we need to get our act right before the World Cup. We can’t rely on one skill, and we need to do well in all departments. The Test squad is pretty settled, and it’s going to be a lengthy series. We want to play tough cricket and we know the English side will provide us with that. (About the ball that got him out) I’ve been playing against Rashid since U-19 and it was a terrific ball, so it’s just one of those balls that you have to take in your stride and say “Wow”. I’m surprised that his turn has reduced over the years, but this one was an amazing ball.”
