Indian captain Virat Kohli has been breaking and creating records for fun in the past decade or so. The 31-year-old, who made his debut for India back in 2008 has already racked up 70 International hundreds – 43 in One-day Internationals and 27 in Test cricket- and is third in the list of most number of three-figure scores, behind Ricky Ponting (71) and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar (100).

With every hundred that Virat scores these days, he is inching towards Mount.100. But will he be able to sustain his form and fitness during the course of the next 7-8 years and scale the record set by the ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar?

According to former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, it will all boil down to three factors- form, fitness, and mental fitness- in determining whether Virat indeed manages to score hundred International tons.

“We are talking about phenomenal numbers here, so you mentioned seven to eight years of cricket and at the rate he (Virat Kohli ) is going, yes, he can definitely knock it off,” Brett Lee said on Star Sports show ‘cricket connected’

Lee added: “It comes down to three things, there is one thing I would like to eliminate – so, you talk about talent as a batsman, he’s definitely got that talent, eliminate that first and foremost. Then fitness – Virat Kohli has got that fitness, so for me, it is all about fitness at the age of 30 and also that mental strength, the mental capacity to get through those hard times, being away from home, from his wife, or when they will have children,”

Brett Lee further said that Virat has all the three aforementioned components to achieve the feat but also added that it wouldn’t be easy as in his view how can someone go past the ‘God’ himself.

“He will do it easily with his talent, it comes down to his mental strength and if he stays fit enough and I believe he has got all those three components to go past Sachin,” the former fast bowler added.

“But, how can you say someone can go past Sachin Tendulkar- this is God here, can someone go better than God, we will wait and see,”  Lee added.

Virat Kohli will turn 32 this November but considering his fitness, he can easily play for another 6-7 years. But, whether he’ll be able to achieve the feat or not, we’ll wait and see!
