Ahead of the mouth-watering clash against England, India skipper Virat Kohli has said that the World Cup hosts’ recent capitulations has surprised him too. England were one of the biggest pre-tournament favourites to dominate the competition and go all the way. However, the Eoin Morgan-led side is now standing on the brink of elimination at the group stage.

England were looking well on their way to make it to the last four easily before two consecutive defeats jolted them. They suffered a shocking 20-run defeat against Sri Lanka before Australia thrashed them by 64 runs. What is more baffling is the way England’s batsmen have struggled in the last two games. It was their batsmen who made them such a dangerous outfit but they are just failing to deliver in the crunch games.

Against Sri Lanka, England were all out for just 212 while chasing 232 while against Australia, they were all out for 221 while chasing 285. England are now in a spot of bother. They now need to win both of their remaining games to ensure a place in the final four while if they lose any one of them, they will have to depend on other results.

England face a herculean task against India who are still unbeaten in the competition. And ahead of the game, Virat Kohli expressed his surprise over England’s performance. He also seemed to have taken a dig at England by saying that any team is capable of beating any other side.

“Everyone is bit surprised. We thought that England is going to dominate in their own conditions. But as I said that pressure is going to be a massive factor. All teams are very strong. Anyone can beat anyone, you can’t take anything for granted,” said Virat Kohli on the eve of the clash at Edgbaston.

India, meanwhile, are second in the points table with 11 points from 6 games. They need just one more point from three games to enter the semifinal.
