As the festival of cricket, the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded, we move on to the festival of lights — Diwali. Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has posted a video on his Instagram page wishing the fans a happy Diwali.

Virat Kohli is currently in Australia for the upcoming all-format series. India will play three ODIs, as many T20Is, and four Test matches. While Kohli will lead the team in all the limited-overs matches, he will captain the side in only the first of four Tests.

The Indian captain has been granted paternity leave by the BCCI, as he and wife, Anushka Sharma are expecting their first child in early January. Kohli will leave for India after the first Test in Adelaide, which is a day-night pink-ball match. Hence the right-hander will miss the following Tests in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Virat Kohli requests fans not to burst crackers:

Virat Kohli has uploaded a video on his Instagram page where he starts off by wishing a happy Diwali to his followers and their families. The 32-year-old prays for the peace and prosperity of his fans. He urges them to avoid bursting crackers in order to keep the environment safe, and instead light a Diya(a small oil lamp) and celebrate the festival by distributing sweets. He concludes by asking everyone to stay safe.

Virat Kohli in his instagram video said,  “A very Happy Diwali from me to you and your families. May God bless you with peace, prosperity, and happiness this Diwali. Please remember do not burst crackers. Protect the environment and have fun with your loved ones with a simple Diya and sweets on this auspicious occasion. Take care and God bless you all.”

Virat Kohli led the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2020, which made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. However, once again, RCB failed to get their hands on the trophy.

With Rohit Sharma taking Mumbai Indians to their fifth title, several experts – Gautam Gambhir being the most vocal – has opined that the MI skipper should be made the leader of the national T20 team.
