Virender Sehwag, former Indian swashbuckling opener, took a hilarious dig at the Chennai Super Kings batsmen following yet another appalling display that saw the Men in Yellow botch another run-chase.
Chasing 168 to win, CSK was looking prime to register their second consecutive win of the tournament after Shane Watson’s half-century had given their middle-order an ideal platform of 1-90 in 10 overs.
The non-performing middle-order has been the nemesis for the former champions thus far in the IPL and according to Virender Sehwag, some of the CSK batsmen think of their place in the side as a government job where they know that even if they don’t perform, they know that they will get their salary anyway.
“Ye run banne chahiye the. Par Kedar Jadhav ne aake dot ball kheli. Jadeja ne bhi 1-2 dott ball kheli. To vo bhi pressure bana. Aur mere khyal se Chennai Super Kings ke kuch player aise hai jaise sarkari naukari mil jati hai, phir uske bad perform karo na karo tankha to milni milni hai [It should have been chased down. But the dot balls played by Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja didn’t help. And, in my view, some of the Chennai Super Kings batsmen think of CSK as a government job, whether you perform or not, they know they’ll get their salary anyway]’,” Virender Sehwag said on CricBuzz Live.
‘Dinesh Karthik forced CSK captain MS Dhoni to change his plan’- Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag also added that KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik outsmarted MS Dhoni by keeping Sunil Narine at the backend.
Sehwag felt that by holding back Narine, DK forced MS Dhoni to attack Varun Chakravarthy in the 17th over which ultimately led to his demise.
“Vo bhi calculate karte hai, kisko marenge, kisko target karenge. MS Dhoni generally 16th over me aisa shot marke out nahi hote. Maybe sunil narine ke over bache the isliye vo shot marne ke liye gaye. Ye strategy change karne pe majboor kiya Dinesh Karthik ne unko (MS Dhoni normally calculates which bowlers to target. Maybe the fact that Sunil Narine still had some overs in his tank forced him to change his strategy and attack (Varun Chakravarthy) in the 17th over)” Virender Sehwag said.
