MS Dhoni had scored 455 runs in the IPL 2018 and he had the best average of 75.83. However, Dhoni is not in the best of forms in the recent past. Thus, former Indian flamboyant batsman, VVS Laxman hopes MS Dhoni repeats the same magic in the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2019. However, Dhoni had batted at number four position for most of the matches in the IPL.

Dhoni has continued to bat at the number six position and hasn’t been able to repeat his previous performances. With his power-hitting capabilities on the wane, it would not be a bad idea to promote him up the order.

Dhoni was at his best in IPL 2018.

The right-hander hasn’t been able to hit the ground and has failed to rotate the strike early on in his inning. In fact, Dhoni has struggled to tackle the spinners.

“MS Dhoni is a legendary player and I believe he will have a big role to play in the 2019 World Cup. He is the best wicket-keeper in the world without a doubt, even now. He is supremely fit,” Laxman told Aaj Tak in an interview.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni was a different batsman in the IPL 2018 where he looked at his absolute best. Dhoni was able to catapult his attack on the opposition and brought his A-game to the table.

“I am excited with the way he batted in the IPL this year. If he goes out and plays with such freedom, he is still a dangerous player. If he plays his natural game and expresses himself, I am confident he will be very successful in the 2019 World Cup,” Laxman further said.

The Master has all the experience.

Dhoni has all the experience under his belt. Therefore, VVS Laxman believes Dhoni will play a crucial role in next year ODI showpiece. Meanwhile, Laxman said taking a call on retirement was a tough decision. However, he decided to go with the inner voice.

“Retirement decision is always tough because it’s your love and passion and you don’t know when to leave. It’s that inner voice one listens to which I think is the supreme power’s voice. In my career, there have been numerous occasions when I have listened to my inner voice. That’s what told me it was time to go.

“You have to be satisfied when it comes to the retirement decision. It’s not about what people will say and how they see it. That does not matter. What matters is what you feel,” he said.

MS Dhoni has been a big servant of Indian cricket. However, the team management will like him to be at the top of his game before the World Cup.
