It would not be entirely wrong to say that Abhimanyu Mithun is a forgotten man in Indian cricket as far as his international career is concerned. The Karnataka star had taken the domestic cricket by storm in his very first season in 2009 and made his international debut the very next year. Abhimanyu Mithun made his Test and ODI debut in 2010 but failed to make much of a mark at the international stage.
His Test debut was against Sri Lanka at Galle in which he claimed four wickets. He batted at No. 11 in the first innings. His last appearance for India came way back in 2011 and since then he has not even come close to a recall. Well, things could change in the coming days if he continues to bowl like he bowled in the just-concluded final of Vijay Hazare Trophy against Tamil Nadu.

Mithun starred with the ball as he picked up five wickets for just 34 runs. The highlight of the spell was the hat-trick he took in the final over of Tamil Nadu’s innings. He first dismissed Murali Vijay for a 2-ball duck in the first over of the innings before dismissing Vijay Shankar for 38 towards in the 46th over of the innings. In the final over, Mithun dismissed Shahrukh Khan, M Mohammed and Murugan Ashwin off successive deliveries to become the first Karnataka bowler to complete a hat-trick in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Talking about the match, Karnataka beat Tamil Nadu by 60 runs (VJD) in a rain-affected final to clinch the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Fresh off the fine series against South Africa, Mayank Agarwal starred with the bat for Karnataka. The India Test opener smashed an unbeaten 55-ball 69, while KL Rahul too reached a half-century to put Karnataka on course to their fourth Vijay Hazare title win in the last seven seasons. Tamil Nadu were all out for 252. In reply, Karnataka raced away to 146 for 1 in 23 overs before rain brought an end to the proceedings.
