Ahead of the much-awaited clash between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Shoaib Akhtar has launched a stinging attack at the latter. The former Pakistan speedster lashed out at the Afghanistan team and said that most of the players in the team are from Peshawar. Pakistan will take on Afghanistan in a crucial clash on Saturday at Leeds.

Pakistan need to win the game at all cost to keep their slim semifinal hopes alive. A defeat against Afghanistan will all but end Pakistan’s hopes of making it to the last four. Afghanistan, on the other hand, are already out of the semifinal race after losing all of their seven games. But despite not having much to play for, they are bound to give it their all against Pakistan because of the recent history between the two nations.

The political tension between the two countries has added a different angle to the cricket rivalry between the two nations. Thus a lot will be at stake when both the teams take on each other in the World Cup clash.  And even before the two teams could take to the field, shots have been fired from both the sides.

Afghanistan Cricket Board’s interim CEO Asadullah Khan took a sly dig at Pakistan by saying:

“We’re currently far better than Pakistan & they should ask us for technical, coaching & more support for betterment of their cricket.”

Shoaib Akhtar has now hit out at the Afghanistan team and has ended up making a very controversial statement. On his YouTube channel, Akhtar too took a dig at Afghanistan and also urged them not to give any sort of statement in media.

“Where do Afghanistan play now? Dehradun. What is their home ground? Dehradun. It used to be Peshawar once. We used to prepare those boys and today they have gone to Delhi, Noida. They have become a good team, India have invested well in Afghanistan. But India could not inject sense of maturity in them,” said Shoaib Akhtar.

“If today the identity cards of all these Afghanistan players are seen, they all belong to Peshawar. This team can also be banned. So I am requesting the CEO of Afghanistan board and many other who are launching their statements in the media, please don’t do this,” he added.
