The three-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan ended in a heartbreaking manner for visiting side Bangladesh. Down 2-0 in the series, they would have desperately sought a win in the final game to avoid a humiliating whitewash in Doon Valley.

And it looked like the Tigers would avoid getting whitewashed after Mushfiqur Rahim hit five consecutive fours in the penultimate over. Wicketkeeper-batsman also took a single off the last ball. So much so, Bangladesh needed a gettable nine runs off six deliveries with six wickets in hand.

But in the end, the result remained the same. Afghanistan went on to win the thriller by a solitary run in the most dramatic of finishes. Interestingly, the leg-spin sensation Rashid Khan was bowling the last over.

The equation was down to four off the last ball with Ariful Haque on strike. Rashid bowled a wrong’un which Ariful picked as he swung it with all his might towards long-on.

However, it was not the cleanest of hits but the ball looked destined to cross the ropes. However, Samiullah ran to his left, grabbed the ball and just as his left foot was about to land outside the boundary, he flicked it into the playing area.

In the meanwhile, the Bangladesh batsmen had already completed two. But before they could take the third, the throw reached Mohammad Shahzad and he didn’t take long to whip off the bails in a flash.

With it, Bangladesh fell short by a run. And as soon as the run out was effected, the Afghanistan players added salt to Bangladesh’s wounds by doing the famous Naagin dance.

The dance was made popular by none other than the Bangladeshi players and it became viral during this year’s tri-nation series; Nidahas Trophy.
