Pakistan’s dressing room has always been a scene of unrest and the recent spat between former stars Shoaib Akhtar and Moin Khan has once again proved it. Even after the end of the careers, the two cannot get along as they took a shot at each other. It all started when Shoaib Akhtar slammed Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed for his poor fitness.
Akhtar’s comment had come after Pakistan’s heavy seven-wicket loss at the hands of West Indies in their World Cup-opener. West Indies thoroughly outplayed the Men in Green to start their World Cup on a stunning note. It took them less than 22 overs to bowl out Pakistan and less than 14 overs to chase down the paltry total of 106.
West Indies’ ploy of targeting Pakistan batsmen with short stuff paid rich dividends. Fast bowler Oshane Thomas took four wickets as Pakistan were bundled out for their second-lowest World Cup total of 105 in just 21.4 overs. Following the defeat, Akhtar had taken a shot at Sarfraz, calling him unfit.
“When Sarfaraz Ahmed came for the toss, his stomach was sticking out and his face was so fat. He’s the first captain I’ve seen who is so unfit. He’s not able to move across and he’s struggling with wicket-keeping,” Shoaib Akhtar had said.
Moin Khan then shot back at Akhtar, saying that the former speedster was not fit himself during his playing days. The former Pakistan skipper said that had Akhtar been a fit player, he could have taken more than 400 wickets.
Akhtar, however, is in no mood to be criticised as he hit out at his former captain. Akhtar reminded Moin of his wickets tally and also called him a poor captain.
“I already have 450 international wickets to my name in all three formats. I have single-handedly won many series for Pakistan which you can only dream of. And secondly, a player will take 450 wickets when his captain is Imran Khan and not Moin Khan,” said Shoaib Akhtar.
