Jharkhand and Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan seem to love setting himself challenges and then nailing them.
This facet of Ishan’s character has been on full display during the course of the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Kishan, who became just the second Indian cricketer to make his ODI debut on his birthday, during the first game on Sunday, announced himself to the international arena by smashing a six off the very ball he faced.
As it turned out, Kishan had already said to his teammates that he will be hitting a six off the very first delivery he’ll face in ODI cricket.
On Tuesday, it seems Ishan had already told his teammates that he will run out Lakshan Sandakan if the latter tries to sneak in a single in the last over in order to give the in-form Chamika Karunaratne the strike.
And, that is exactly what he did!
It all happened on the third ball of the last over of Sri Lanka’s innings when Lakshan Sandakan, after having swung and missed the delivery bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, tried to sneak in a bye to give Karunaratne the strike.
But Karunatrane didn’t want to. And, before Sandakan could turn back and get in, Ishan Kishan was already half-way down and he proceeded to nail the under-arm throw.
Post the run-out, Ishan was heard as saying to his teammates- “Bol ke run-out Maara” [Told you I would run him out]”
Meanwhile, it didn’t prove to be a fruitful outing for Ishan Kishan-the batsman as he failed to emulate his exploits of the first game.
Kishan chopped it onto his stumps in an attempt to square-cut Kasun Rajitha.
As far as Team India is concerned, the visitors are reeling in their run-chase of 276 with half of their side back in the hut with just 140 runs on the board.
