Deepak Chahar, on Sunday, re-wrote record books as he starred for India in the series-clinching win over Bangladesh. Riding on the pacer’s sensational spell of 6 for 7 including a hat-trick, India thrashed Bangladesh by 30 runs in the third T20I to clinch the series 2-1. The right-arm pacer not only became the first India to pick a hat-trick in T20Is but also returned the best-ever bowling figures in T20Is.

Chasing 175 to win , Mohammad Naim (81) and Mohammad Mithun (27) laid a strong platform with a 98-run stand for the 3rd wicket that threatened to take the game away from India. But before the visitors could make further inroads, Deepak Chahar returned to jolt them again. In his first spell, Chahar had bowled a maiden over while dismissing Liton Das (9) and Soumya Sarkar (0) off successive deliveries.

Chahar struck again to remove Mithun which turned the game on its head. On the very next ball bowled by Shivam Dube, Mushfiqur Rahim played on without scoring to put brakes on the scoring rate. Dube went on to pick two more in the 16th over to all but finish the contest. And Chahar then capped off the fine evening by taking a hat-trick spread across two overs.

On the final ball of the 18th over, he dismissed Shafiul Islam before dismissing Mustafizur Rahman and Aminul Islam on the first two balls of the final over. Bangladesh were eventually all out for 144 despite being 110 for 2 at one stage.

“I never thought of this, not even in my dreams. I have been trying to work hard since my childhood and my efforts have paid off. Rohit was planning to give me the crucial overs and the management wanted to do the same. I always focus on the next ball, I keep doing that, until I don’t complete my spell,” said Chahar while taking the Man of the Match and the Man of the Series awards.
