Shreyas Iyer further enhanced his reputation with a stunning match-defining knock in the third T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday. His knock played a big part in India’s impressive series-clinching win over the visitors. The hosts thrashed Bangladesh by 30 runs to seal the three-match series 2-1.

India needed someone to take charge of the innings after losing their openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan inside the powerplay and Shreyas Iyer rose to the occasion. Along with KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship as well as put India on course for a total which eventually turned out to be a winning total.

The Mumbai star added 59 runs with Rahul before the latter departed after scoring 52. Iyer went on to score his maiden fifty and was dismissed for 62. The knock came off just 33 balls and contained three fours and as many as five sixes. Towards the end, Manish Pandey slammed 22 from just 13 to help the hosts put up a decent total.

Deepak Chahar then starred with the ball, picking up 6 for just 7 runs including a hat-trick as Bangladesh were all out for just 144. India needed a strong start with the ball to strengthen their grip on the game and Deepak Chahar did exactly that.

In the third over, he removed Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar on consecutive deliveries to leave the visitors reeling at 12 for 2. However, that was not at all the precursor of the things that were to follow. Mohammad Naim and Mohammad Mithun not only batted the visitors out of trouble but also put them in good position.

The two added 98 before Chahar broke the stand by dismissing Mithun. The dismissal opened the floodgates as Bangladesh were all out for 144. Talking about Iyer, the best moment of his knock came in the 15th over when Afif Hossain came on to bowl. The right-handed batsman hit the spinner for three consecutive sixes and went on to complete his fifty in the same over.

Here is a clip of those three straight sixes from Shreyas Iyer:
