Jasprit Bumrah may have had a rare poor outing in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand but the champion fast bowler was back to his absolute best on the first morning of the Nottingham Test against England.
Bumrah started off with a bang as he set-up Rory Burns to perfection by bowling a series of deliveries that went across the left-handed opener before nipping it back into him to pin the English opener plumb in front.
Bumrah was brilliant in the second session, especially against Joe Root, as he got the ball to move both ways to challenge both edges.
He eventually reaped the reward in the post-Tea session as he picked three more wickets to finish with a four-for.
His last victim was James Anderson, who had absolutely no clue against what was a snorter of an inswinging yorker and could sense from Jasprit Bumrah’s smile that he enjoyed it.
Bumrah had yorked Anderson on the previous delivery to trap him in front of the wicket and he looked to have got his man as the on-field umpire raised his finger.
However, Anderson decided to challenge the decision and he was eventually vindicated when the ball tracking showed that the ball would have gone down the leg-side.
He wasn’t lucky in the second instance though as Bumrah dislodged his stumps with an unplayable yorker.
Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah perfectly set-up Jos Buttler to lull him into playing a flashy drive away from his body before he beat Stuart Broad all ends up with a fullish inswinging delivery that trapped the southpaw plumb in front.
