Shardul Thakur bowled his heart out in the first two sessions and he was eventually rewarded for his persistence as he knocked over the dangerous-looking England captain, Joe Root.
It all happened on the first ball of the 59th over when Shardul got one to nip back viciously into Joe Root.
Root was late on the flick and the ball proceeded to hit his pads right in front of the wicket.
It was so dead plumb that the umpire raised his finger in a flash and Root didn’t even bother challenging the call.
Root’s wicket came at the worst possible time for England, who had already lost their last three wickets within a space of 17 runs.
It only got worse for the home side as Shardul Thakur backed it up with yet another scalp in the same over as he dismissed Ollie Robinson for a duck.
Robinson, in an attempt to pull Shardul, ended up giving catching practice to Mohammed Shami at mid off as England slumped to 8/159.
Since then, Jasprit Bumrah has trapped Stuart Broad lbw to leave England nine down but Sam Curran is fighting it out in the middle as England aims to get past the 200-run mark.
