Jasprit Bumrah showing some of his old form was one of the very few positives for India in the just-concluded second Test against New Zealand. The hosts thrashed India by seven wickets to sweep the two-match series. New Zealand had won the first Test by ten wickets.

Resuming the day on a precarious 90 for 6, India could add only 34 runs to their overnight score and were all out for 124. Trent Boult starred with the ball for the hosts, picking up four wickets while his new-ball partner Tim Southee accounted for three wickets. For India, Cheteshwar Pujara’s 24 was the top score.

In reply, New Zealand rode on fifties from openers Tom Latham and Tom Blundell to chase down the total of 132 without any trouble. Both the openers all but sealed the game for their side by adding 103 runs.

Some Bumrah magic:

While India suffered a crushing loss, Jasprit Bumrah showed that he is slowly but steadily regaining his old form. The India pace spearhead has struggled to pick up wickets since returning from the long injury layoff but looks well on his way to regain his best form.

His delivery to dismiss Tom Blundell in the second innings was a testament of that and his reaction said it all. Although the match was done and dusted with New Zealand needing only 11 runs, Jasprit Bumrah decided to celebrate the dismissal on his stunning delivery.

It was a sharp inswinger from the pacer which passed through Blundell’s bat and pad. The ball went on to uproot the batsman’s off-stump.

Here is a clip of that dismissal:

Jasprit Bumrah picked up two of the three wickets in the second innings. Apart from Blundell, he also dismissed New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. In the first innings, he had picked up three wickets.
