The Men in Blue would have been high on confidence when they took the field for the 2nd ODI against England at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium in London.

After winning the T20I series and the opening ODI, India were the favourites to seal the ODI series in Lord’s. They have played some terrific brand of cricket which sees them at the verge of winning yet another limited overs series. If they do manage to win the series, it will be their 4th successive series victory in limited-overs cricket.

It was Eoin Morgan who won the toss and opted to bat. It was a surprising call especially given the fact that the Men in Blue have been sensational run chasers. The start was similar to the Nottingham ODI.

Both the openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow looked in great touch and shared a wonderful partnership. However, it was Kuldeep Yadav yet again who bamboozled the English openers and bagged the two crucial wickets.

He went for a few runs in the middle but bagged three crucial wickets. Joe Root stormed back to form and scored a stupendous century, as England reached a commendable score of 323 on the board in their allotted 50 overs. It was going to be a competitive total but not a match-winning one under any stress of imagination.

India needed to get off to a good start, and it was exactly what was provided by the openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. Both looked in great touch and played some wonderful shots in the process. However, both fell in quick succession. Mark Wood castled Rohit. It was a poor shot from Rohit and the ball cannoned on to his stumps.

Buttler’s sensational catch

Dhawan was caught at point. However, it was Jos Buttler who took a sensational diving catch to send back the man in form KL Rahul back to the pavilion. It was a short of length delivery from Plunkett which took the inside edge of his bat and was taken by Buttler behind the stumps. He was wrong-footed but still managed to hold on to the catch.
