Watch: Kieron Pollard Tries To Distract Jasprit Bumrah From Taking His Catch

‘That wasn’t too smart from Pollard’ – said the commentator as Kieron Pollard nearly bumped into Jasprit Bumrah while the latter was about to take the Windies star’s catch off his own bowling in the second T20I between India and Windies.

Things could have gone out of hands had Bumrah not managed to hold on the catch even after being distracted by his Mumbai Indians teammate Pollard.  The incident occurred in the eleventh over of Windies’ innings. Bumrah bowled a short delivery to Pollard. Not in a position to play the shot, Pollard ended up top-edging the ball just in-front of him. Bumrah came running in to catch the ball. The India pacer could not have asked for an easier catch to dismiss the dangerous batsman.

However, just before Bumrah could pouch the ball, he was nearly distracted by Pollard as the Windies batsman almost got in the way of the bowler and the ball. But fortunately, Bumrah caught the ball. And while it looked unintentional from Pollard, the Indian fielders were not impressed by his act. In fact, skipper Rohit Sharma even made his displeasure clear to the on-field umpire.

Coming to the game, India rode on a stunning unbeaten century from skipper Rohit Sharma to beat Windies by 71 runs and seal the three-match series with a match remaining. Asked to bat first, India were off to a solid start. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan added 123 runs for the first wicket before the latter departed after scoring 43.  Rishabh Pant, who was promoted in the batting order, then failed to make the most of the chance.

However, Rohit remained till the end, scoring 111 off just 61 balls to guide India to 195 for 2. KL Rahul also played a handy knock of 26 off just 14.

In reply, Windies kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. They were five down for just 68 runs on the board. The visitors rarely looked in contention and were eventually restricted to 124 for 9.
