The short-pitched delivery in cricket is undeniably one of the gun deliveries, unleashed to intimidate any batsman or get their wicket. However, of late, few vicious short balls have ended up hitting the batsmen on fragile parts of their body, even resulting in a concussion. In the ongoing extravaganza named the Big Bash League in Australia, Melbourne Stars’ Marcus Stoinis became the prey to a well-directed short delivery by Hobart Hurricanes’ bowler Riley Meredith.

In the 16th match of the ninth season of the showpiece event, Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars battled against each other at the Invermay Park in Launceston. The incident occurred in the fourth over when Riley Meredith banged the ball in short that struck Marcus Stoinis’ helmet. As soon as he was hit, players from both sides came to check up on him. Fortunately, the all-rounder avoided any serious injury and got up to continue batting. The umpires also had a chat with him and thankfully he was allowed to continue.
