The ongoing World Cup has already witnessed some special catches and New Zealand star Martin Guptill came up with another breathtaking effort in the ongoing match against Australia. The opening batsman pulled off one of the best catches of all time to send back Steve Smith and pile more misery on Australia.

New Zealand started stunningly with the ball. Trent Boult gave them a solid start by dismissing in-form Aaron Finch cheaply. Lockie Ferguson then took the prized scalp of David Warner to put New Zealand on top. And even before Australia could recover from those two setbacks, Martin Guptill pulled off a blinder to send back Steve Smith.

On the second ball of the 12h over, Ferguson bowled a short delivery as part of the plan to dismiss Smith. New Zealand had already placed Martin Guptill at leg-gully for the pull shot and Smith failed to beat that trap. Ferguson bowled a short delivery and Smith duly pulled. At first, Smith looked safe before Matin Gupitll made a breathtaking dive to take the catch with single hand.

Here is a clip of that stunner from Martin Guptill:

Australia, meanwhile, have already qualified for the semifinal. Even if they lose this ongoing game and their remaining league game, it would only impact their standing in the top four. New Zealand, on the other hand, need to win just one point from two games to enter the last four. The Black Caps, who have lost just one game in this tournament, will next take on England.

At the time of writing this report, Australia were 65 for 3 in the 15th over. Marcus Stoinis and Usman Khawaja were batting in the middle.
