Param Uppal fell victim to a misunderstanding in the ongoing practice match between India and Cricket Australia XI.

The stage was set for Param Uppal to showcase his talent. A highly-rated youngster Down Under, Uppal was born in India before moving to Australia when he was four years old. He is a right-handed batsman and a handy off-spinner who represented Australia in the Under-19 World Cup this year.

Not surprisingly, all eyes were on Uppal when he came out to bat after Umesh Yadav sent back Cricket Australia XI skipper Sam Whiteman.  However, Uppal did not look at ease at all against the world number one Test side. He was batting on 5 off 21 before a misunderstanding with Jake Carder led to his run-out.

He played a straighter delivery from Ravindra Jadeja towards mid on and set off for the single straightaway. His partner, however, had his eyes towards the ball. And by the time Carder turned around, Uppal was standing in the middle of the pitch. Carder sent him back but before that R Ashwin picked up the ball and threw it to Rishabh Pant who did the rest.

Here is a clip of that dismissal:

Coming to the game, Cricket Australia XI made India toil hard on day three. Starting the day on 24 for no loss, Cricket Australia XI openers D’Arcy Short and Max Bryant added 114 runs for the first wicket. At one stage, the hosts were 213 for 2  before losing 4 wickets in quick succession. As a result, they found themselves 6 down for 234. However, an unbeaten 122-run stand between  Harry Nielsen and Aaron Hardie helped them finish the day on a commanding 356 for 6.
