Chennai Super Kings skipper, MS Dhoni-led his franchise Chennai Super Kings entered the 7th IPL final in nine years, courtesy of a sensational come from behind victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1.
Faf du Plessis played a sensational knock, as Chennai chased down the target of 139 by two wickets and with five deliveries to spare.
They were done and dusted for all money at one stage. However, du Plessis kept the hopes alive with some astounding hitting in the 18th over of Carlos Brathwaite.
With 23 needing off the last couple of overs, Shardul Thakur got two lucky boundaries in the form of edges which went to the boundary. He smashed a more comprehensive boundaries in the final delivery of the over which brought the calculation down to six required off the last over.
Du Plessis heroics seal the deal for CSK in Qualifier 1
Du Plessis, the man of the moment, finished the match with a straight six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the first delivery of the final over.
It was a sensational comeback by Chennai to win the game from a hopeless situation. Siddharth Kaul and Rashid Khan had weaved the magic around the CSK batsmen. However, du Plessis made sure he took the match till the last over and eventually sealed the deal.
Following CSK’s victory, some of the team members were part of the Muthoot Meet and Greet’s event. It was a small kid from the crowd who asked a question which made every other player laugh.
It actually made him laugh too. The child asked that why does he doesn’t stop wicket-keeping and be a bowling option and take wickets.
Dhoni’s epic reply
Dhoni in reply said he doesn’t prefer getting hit on the field. As it is T20 cricket, bowlers tend to go for runs. Hence, he has chosen the wicket-keeping position which is a rather glamorous position to be in. It was a witty answer by Dhoni which left everyone in splits.
