The last thing a cricketer would expect from a cricket journalist is the latter not identifying him and something similar happened with Sri Lanka’s Niroshan Dickwella on Thursday. The wicketkeeper-batsman was addressing the media at the end of second day’s play of the first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi when the journalist made a blunder.

The Pakistani journalist mistook Niroshan Dickwella for his teammate Dhananjaya de Silva. Usually, the top-performer of the day addresses the media and de Silva was the best performer for Sri Lanka on day two. However, Dickwella addressed the media and perhaps that made the journalist mistake him for him de Silva. But then mistakes like these are least expected from a cricket journalist.

But Niroshan Dickwella laughed off the blunder and came up with a brilliant reply even though the journalist committed the mistake not once but twice.

The journalist began by saying: “you played well…” before Dickwella interrupted to tell him: “I’m Dickwella actually. I’m not de Silva”.

Dickwella was out for 33 on the day while de Silva was still unbeaten at stumps having scored a fighting 72. But the player’s clarification did not make any difference as the journalist made the mistake again, saying:

“You played well on this pitch and in these conditions. Are you thinking a hundred on this pitch?”

In reply, Dickwella with a smile on his face said: “You mean me? I am Dickwella not de Silva. I got out. I am already out in the pavilion. Maybe in the second innings.”

Here is a video showing that incident from the press-conference:

Poor weather conditions spoil day:

Only a little over 18 overs of play was possible during the entire second day due to bad light. During the passage of play, Sri Lanka lost Niroshan Dickwella for 33 to pacer Shaheen Afridi after resuming on 202 for five. De Silva hit 11 fours to remain unbeaten on 72 with Dilruwan Perera not out on two when the umpires called off play for the day.
