The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 final witness an epic encounter when Karnataka defended their title beating Tamil Nadu by one run in Surat. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu had the game in their control with Ravichandran Ashwin in the middle but messed up in the final three balls of the match. Previously, Ashwin rose to brilliance with the ball to keep Karnataka scoreboard in check.

In pursuit of 181 runs, Tamil Nadu got a shaky start reeling at 37 for two in 4.1 overs before skipper Dinesh Karthik, and Washington Sundar took control over the scheme of things. They got out after getting set as the game never took sides changing hands all through the game. Baba Aparajith and Vijay Shankar took over from them calculating it rather well, mixing attack with caution to keep the equation under control. But trust a twist to come out in the last two over where Karnataka took the game from the jaws of defeat.

Batting first, Karnataka had piled up 180 runs in their quota of 20 overs with skipper Manish Pandey showing them the road. In-form KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal got a good start in the final adding 39 runs in only 4.2 overs before Ravichandran Ashwin announced his arrival. He first had Rahul in the long run before dismissing Team India Test opener Mayank Agarwal in the next very delivery. But Manish and Rohan Kadam combined well to post a challenging total which later proved enough to take home the trophy.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin, who is a character to watch on the cricket field, copied South Africa’s veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir after claiming two back-to-back wickets. The veteran cricketer looked in extreme joy as he jumped in joy to celebrate his success.
