Remember the Sri Lankan teenager Matheesha Pathirana who became an internet sensation thanks to his bowling style? The youngster, who is currently playing in the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup, has a bowling style that has an uncanny resemblance to the style of his illustrious compatriot Lasith Malinga. Matheesha Pathirana hogged the limelight when he picked up 6 wickets for just seven runs while making his debut for Trinity College Kandyhis debut for Trinity College Kandy last September.

Well, the Sri Lanka starlet is now looking set to grab the eyeballs once again after a delivering a ball that was clocked at a staggering 175 kmph. Yes, you read that right. Matheesha Pathirana delivered that ball while he was bowling to India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal in the U19 World Cup on Sunday. As of now, ICC has not given any update on that delivery and thus it would not be very wrong to assume that the speedometer malfunctioned. In the past too, something like this has happened. During the third ODI of India’s tour of Pakistan in 2004, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Sami had clocked at 164 km/ph (101.9 mph). The officials later found out that there was some fault with the speedometer.

At present, former Pakistan pace Shoaib Akhtar holds the record for sending down the fastest delivery in the game. During the World Cup clash against England in 2003, the last ball of his second over was recorded at 161.3km/h or 100.2mph. It bettered Akhtar’s previous mark of 161.0km/h.
