Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake, who is the second fastest man in the world after compatriot Usain Bolt, has criticised MS Dhoni’s decision of giving Ravindra Jadeja the responsibility to bowl the final over during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals.

Death-overs specialist Dwayne Bravo had one over up remaining with his previous three having gone for 23 and earning CSK the wicket of Shreyas Iyer. But to everyone’s surprise, MS Dhoni handed the ball to Jadeja although he revealed the reason behind it after the match. The CSK skipper explained that he had to give the ball to Jadeja as his go-to man in the death overs, Bravo was not fit and was out of the field.

“Bravo was not fit. He went out and we were not sure if he would be able to come back. The options we had were Karn [Sharma] and Jaddu [Ravindra Jadeja], so we went with Jaddu,” Dhoni told the broadcasters in his post-match interview.

Jadeja, nonetheless, had to defend 17 runs in the final over with a well-set Shikhar Dhawan and Axar Patel in the middle. However, the left-arm spinner failed miserably as Axar hit him for three sixes. The first ball from Jadeja was a wide before Dhawan took a single to bring Axar on the strike.

The left-handed batsman then hit the next two deliveries for sixes to bring the equation to three from the last three balls. It was followed by a double before Axar hit one more six to end the game. Axar remained unbeaten on 21 off 5 balls while Dhawan remained unbeaten on 101. Earlier in the game, CSK had scored 179 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs.

Soon after the match ended, Yohan Blake took to Twitter to criticise MS Dhoni’s decision of giving a left-arm spinner the ball when two left-handed batsmen were batting. Standing in front of his television set, Yohan Blake recorded a video of himself criticising Dhoni as he said:

“I think Dhoni made the worst decision in a long while. Dhoni, that’s a poor decision to bowl Jadeja at the last part. What happened to Bravo. Really?”

While posting his tweet, the Olympic great also wrote: “Poor poor poor poor choice Mahendra Singh Dhoni. You just can’t bowl Jadeja to the left hand batsman hmmmm.”
