Mayank Agarwal, on Thursday, scored his first Test century in the ongoing first Test against South Africa. The right-handed batsman made his debut in the Melbourne Test last year and has been in the team since then. And with his latest knock, he has pretty much settled down in the team at least for the next few months.

Agarwal, who shared an unbeaten stand of 202 runs with fellow opener Rohit Sharma on day one, started the day two on 84. Just like day one, he did not face much trouble and reached the triple-digit mark with ease. He could have reached his century on day one itself but the rain brought a premature end to the day.

Mayank Agarwal had a tough start to his innings as South Africa pacers Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander troubled him with their line. The Karnataka star, in fact, even survived a scare when an edge off his blade flew through the vacant area in the slips early in his innings. But as the time passed by, he grew confident and started playing confidently. With Rohit looking in great touch, Mayank Agarwal looked more than happy to play the role of the role second fiddle.

Mayank Agarwal, meanwhile, had four fifties to his name prior to the latest knock. He made 76 and 42 in his maiden Test in Melbourne before making 77 in Sydney to end his tour of Australia on a high. He then registered two more fifties in West Indies.
