The Test series between India and Australia in 2001 will always hold a very special place in Indian cricket history. The iconic series is widely considered by many as one of the greatest series of all time. All-conquering Australia arrived in India on the back of 15 straight wins in the longest format of the game.
The Steve Waugh-led side were the firm favourites to win the series against the Sourav Ganguly-led side. But when the three-match series ended, India had left everyone shell-shocked. The hosts went on to break Australia’s 16-match win streak in Tests and also became just the third side to win a Test match after being asked to follow-on during the match in Kolkata.
As expected, Australia started the series in a dominating fashion by winning the series-opener in Mumbai by ten wickets. The visitors were looking set to register their first Test series win in India since 1969. The way the second Test in Kolkata started, India looked set to suffer yet another heavy defeat.
Australia piled up 445 in the first innings despite Harbhajan Singh taking seven wickets including a hat-trick. In reply, India were all out for just 171 and were asked to follow-on. India seemed to be all but out of the match, and the series, before VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid shared the famous stand of 376 runs.

The duo batted together for an entire day, allowing India to set Australia an imposing target of 384 to win on the final day. Australia appeared to be safely batting out the match for a draw, until losing 7 wickets for 56 runs in the final session, collapsing from 166/3 to be bowled out for 212. In the third and final Test in Chennai, the Sourav Ganguly-led side registered a 2-wicket win to seal a memorable series.
And while the series is still fresh in the minds of Indian fans, very few have seen how the players celebrated in the dressing room. Currently, a clip of the unseen footage is doing rounds on the social media and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly also re-tweet
