Watch: Virat Kohli Taunts Joe Root With Mic-Drop Celebration After Brilliantly Running Him Out
The way Joe Root was batting on day one of the ongoing first Test against India, only a special effort would have ended his knock. And the man who rose to the occasion was none other than India skipper Virat Kohli. With none of the bowlers managing to get the better of Root, it was Kohli who ended his England counterpart’s innings with a brilliant piece of fielding.
In the third session of the day, Jonny Bairstow had tucked a Ravichandran Ashwin delivery in front of square on the on-side and made up his mind on taking a two. Root also did not hesitate in obliging to his partner’s call. However, he had to pay a hefty fee for the decision as Kohli ended his knock by running him out.

As soon as the ball went past Kohli, he ran after it, gathered it, turned across and after spotting the Root was running towards the danger end, made an accurate throw. Ashwin was looking to gather the ball but eventually let it go through as the ball crashed into the stumps with Root well short of the crease. A livid Root walked off the ground immediately as the Indian players throughly enjoyed the lucky breakthrough. Root scored 80.

What made the moment even better is Kohli’s celebration. The India skipper asked the crowd to stay quiet, muttered a few words before doing the ‘mic-drop’ celebration to take a dig at Root. The England captain had famously done the celebration after hitting a match-winning century in the third ODI.
