Team India have taken a firm grip on day one of the second Test against South Africa at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Mayank Agarwal has once again put on a century beside his name and added 100+ runs with Cheteshwar Pujara to set the tone. The onus will now be on Virat Kohli to put a big score and post a massive first innings total.

After losing last match’s hero Rohit Sharma early in the innings, Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara laid a strong partnership to carry the batting unit. While the first session belonged to South Africa for the brilliant display of bowling, India walked away with the afternoon one.

Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara dominated the bowlers as they went on a leather hunt. However, South Africa made a comeback at the stroke of tea with Kagiso Rabada getting Pujara out. Agarwal also followed the suit moments after tea after his second Test hundred.

The Proteas finally managed to dry up the runs with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane taking some time to get going. In the meantime, Kagiso Rabada gave away an easy boundary courtesy an overthrow. Rahane gently pushed the ball in the point and looked for a single.

Kohli clearly didn’t respond compelling Rahane to go back. Rabada sensing a run-out opportunity threw the ball wayward giving India four free runs. While this was not the end as Virat Kohli stole the show with his epic reaction. The India skipper gave thumbs-up to the South African players for gifting four crucial runs during a difficult period of the game.
