Rishabh Pant had a day to remember in Vizag as he stole the thunder with short but aggressive innings. Coming in to bat in the 44th over, the youngster smashed 53 off 32 balls to keep the run-rate up, which could have gone down after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal at a crucial stage.

Rishabh started playing big shots right from the start and came up with an epic display of big-hitting in the 46th over where he smashed Sheldon Cottrell for 24 runs. He hit two sixes and three boundaries in the over, churning out fruitful results.

His six on the fourth delivery of the over left everyone surprised as Pant came down on his knees and sent the ball in the stands for a huge six. Even Indin skipper Virat Kohli was left stunned with Rishabh’s power and came up with an epic reaction to it.

Courtesy Rishabh’s 39 off 16, India ended up on a score of 387/5 after 50 overs. Shreyas Iyer too had a crucial role to play at the end as he scored 53 off 32.

Earlier in the innings, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul gave an emphatic start to Men in Blue as they combinedly scored 227 runs for the first wicket. Rahul took the charge earlier but Rohit soon joined in. Rahul was dismissed on 102 while Rohit continued big-hitting and scored 159. He gave signs of creating history by scoring his fourth double-century but missed out.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed on a golden duck but that did not impact the score much.

West Indies have an uphill task at their hand. Previous match centurions Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope will have to ensure that they play big knocks if West Indies are to win this contest. They have been bolstered by the comeback of Evin Lewis but India too bolstered their bowling attack by including SharduL Thakur in the playing XI.

Here is how Virat Kohli reacted to Rishabh Pant’s incredible six:
