Afghanistan might be one of the newest teams to play the game but it has not stopped them from dreaming big. Their journey in the game has been really inspirational so far. They gained the ODI status in 2011 and have not looked back since then.

They qualified for the 2015 World Cup and won their first game in the tournament by beating Scotland. In 2016, they made it to the World T20 and registered a memorable win over eventual champion West Indies. They have also beaten West Indies in a T20I series and were awarded the Test status in 2017.

And as Afghanistan keep moving upwards, their star man Rashid Khan has said that the entire country is expecting the team to win the T20 World Cup. The leg-spinner stated that Afghanistan have the skill, talent and just need the belief to achieve their dream.

“I think the biggest achievement [for Afghanistan] should be, right now, what the team is looking for, what the country is expecting is, to win the T20 World Cup, because we have all the skills, talent, and we just need to have that belief in ourselves that we can do it,” Rashid Khan told India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter’s YouTube show ‘DRS with Ash’.

“Talent-wise we are so good, we have the spinners, we have the fast bowlers, we have the batting skills as well to do it,” added Rashid Khan.

Afghanistan indeed have some good T20 players in their ranks. In Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, they have two of world’s best T20 players. Mujeeb Ur Rahman is another big name from the country. Recently, as many as six cricketers from Afghanistan took part in the Caribbean Premier League 2020.

Rashid Khan, Nabi and Mujeeb will be soon seen in action in IPL 2020 which gets underway on September 19. Rashid Khan and Nabi will play for Sunrisers Hyderabad while Mujeeb will ply his trade for Kings XI Punjab.
