It will be the first time, India will host the World Cup alone. In the past, India had hosted three World Cups in 1987, 1996 and 2011. But on all those occasions, India co-hosted the tournament. India hosted the World Cup with Pakistan in 1987; Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 1996 and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011. Thus it will be the first time India would be hosting the tournament alone.

Moreover, the tournament will be played in the same format as the 2019 edition. The top seven ranked teams and the hosts (India) will automatically qualify for the World Cup. Two more teams will play the tournament – these will be the finalists of the 2023 Cricket World Cup qualifiers.
