Of late, Mohammad Shami has become the vital cog in the Indian bowling section, especially, in overseas games. After showing his ability in the ICC World Cup 2015, he was out of the team owing to injuries and few of his personal reasons also dented his career. However, after a fine time, he was given chance in the ODI format against Windies.

But, unfortunately, he failed to deliver the goods, which saw him being removed from the team. Despite all the drama, he has always been the consistent performer in the Test format of the game, which kept his name on the selection radar for limited overs.

A Wicket-Taker For India:

Somewhere in between Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s masterful bowling and Jasprit Bumrah’s impact, the absence of Mohammad Shami never came to the notice. In fact, the brilliance of Kuldeep-Chahal show also made things look bleak for Shami in the side.

However, with the tournament being played in England, where fast bowlers come into the game, India should have a bowler, who can take you the wickets. Mohammad Shami has got the ability to keep the runs in check and can hit those uncomfortable lengths of the batsmen more often than not.

He has got the knack of picking wickets with the new ball and also a handy customer while bowling under the pressure. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Shami raised his bar to make things happen for him and the country.

His problem in ODIs largely centred around control and accuracy. When he did play, he was getting the wickets but his economy rate was always on the higher side. The shoulder injury didn’t help either as he was rarely, if ever, at his best. But,  now, he made a terrific comeback.

Experience matters:

In 2015 ICC World Cup, Shami was the top bowler for India, who snared wickets on a regular basis. His experience will do a world of good for the team during the upcoming edition of the grand event. He can deal with those pressure situations with expertise, which would help the team.

Worthy backup for Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah:

Well, if the combination of spinners or the performance of Hardik Pandya benefits India, the team management would certainly rest Mohammad Shami. But, both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Bumrah are the injury-prone players, which makes him the best choice to ask for his services. He can make it smooth with his experience.

ODI Numbers:

He appeared in 40 games for the team and bagged 106 wickets to his name. Shami is the qucikest Indian to reach 100-wickets tally as well. His bowling average reads 25.5 with an economy rate of 5.5.
