English County cricket veteran Alfonso Thomas, signed up for the role of bowling coach for Windies prior to the World Cup qualifiers. The move was made by the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board) to ensure that the Windies progress into the 2019 World Cup, next year.
Thomas’ appointment is only one of the many changes made by the board. The other objective of the Board is to defend their World T20 title won by the women’s team in 2016.
One of the veterans in the T20 circuits around the globe, Alfonso Thomas was part of IPL, BBL, and BPL apart from his stint, with Somerset and Kent.
The other change in the personnel of the support staff is the promotion of Rawl Lewis as the team manager. Lewis previously played the role of operation management during West Indies’s campaign in the World T20 of 2016.
“Rawl Lewis has been promoted to be team manager and Floyd Reifer steps up from his former U15s coaching role. I’m delighted that we’re promoting from within the CWI coaching and management set up,” commented Jimmy Adams, director of WICB.
New roles for David Kershaw and Corey Bocking
Apart from Lewis, Floyd Reifer elevates from his previous role of U15 coaching role. The new appointments in the staff are Physio David Kershaw and strength and conditioning coach Corey Bocking.
“Referencing the background to these changes we are focused on improving team performance. Also, broadening and deepening the coaching expertise in the region. We know we’ve got vital games and tournaments this year. Futher, we’re confident that these appointments will strengthen the Windies squads for this year and our future plans,” further added the West Indies all-rounder according to Cricbuzz.
