Windies Rested Chris Gayle for Upcoming T20I Series against Bangladesh

The Windies opening batsman, Chris Gayle has been rested for the T20I series against Bangladesh. Being in excellent touch, Gayle scored a half-century in third ODI which Windies eventually lost, and despite that, the southpaw got rested.

Windies have recalled Chadwick Walton into the side along with Sheldon Cottrell. However, the Windies announced 13-member team that will feature in three-matches T20 series, starting Tuesday (July 31) in St. Kitts.

The squad announced late Monday saw little change from the team that played in a charity match at Lord’s. Both Cottrell and Walton were not part of the team which contested the Hurricane Relief T20 at Lord’s earlier this year.

The Jamaican all-rounder, Andre Russell along with veteran Marlon Samuels will be in action after going through an injury. Earlier, Samuels missed the ODI series, whereas, Russell took part in the first one and missed the rest two.

The talisman Chris Gayle gathered 142 runs in the ODI series. He will sit out the rubber that attributes the last two matches at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, United States. The chairman of selectors, Courtney Browne said,

“We have rested Chris Gayle and have added left-arm pacer, Sheldon Cottrell for variety to the bowling attack. The team reflects the last squad that performed well in the charity match in the UK,”

Recently, Cottrell grabbed 16 wickets for Vancouver Knights in Global T20 Canada League. He played his last T20 for Windies on the tour of New Zealand.

“The strong performances of the young players in the Windies B team during the T20 series in Canada’s Global T20 League and this augurs well for our T20 game.”
