The much-awaited marriage and the following receptions of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma were the most debated event at the end of 2017. They both got married at an 800-year-old palace at Tuscany in Italy. The newlywed also hosted a couple of receptions in Delhi and Mumbai recently. However, Anushka has faced harsh criticism on Twitter for applying Sindoor and called it a ‘Display of Patriarchy’.
Both Virat and Anushka looked happy in each other company during each of their ceremonies, and the followers went gaga over their viral pictures throughout the last couple of weeks. There was an undue criticism of the couple for getting married in Italy as few lashed out at them and even called ‘anti-nationalists’. Now the sindoor of Anushka Sharma has come under the scanner as the social media is engaged in the war of words.
Delhi reception took place on December 21 for family and friends like a couple of Indian cricket team members also graced the reception party. The newly married couple looked stunning together in their attire. However, Anushka Sharma’s look gained mixed reactions but most of the lady Twitterati called her ‘anti-feminist’ for the long stretch of sindoor on her forehead. Though there were some who supported her and reminded the people that is her ‘freedom of expression’.
This is how the Twitter reacted:

After “Dedh Kilo Sindoor” remark on Anushka, few so-called journalists might comment on “Suhaag Churas” without understanding tradition of wearing it “to bring in prosperity and fertility to the married couple, worn for the well being of husband”.#VirushkaReception pic.twitter.com/kAQT73PScB

Anushka sindoor controversy is just funny.
In all probability the prominent sindoor was to create a harmony with the saree & enhance the traditional Bengali bride look that the designer conceptualised.
Those attacking and defending are completely oblivious to this aspect. ?

The amount of sindoor Anushka has applied today is equal to the amount of sindoor I have applied in the last 16 years.
