Women's Asia Cup: Indian Team Returns to Winning Ways After Bangladesh Loss

Indian women’s team has returned to winning ways after thrashing Sri Lanka by seven wickets in their fourth encounter of the Women’s Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

Women in Blue have risen to the top of the points table with three wins in the four outings. Pakistan and Bangladesh also have six points under their belt, like India, but the defending champions have a better Net Run-Rate.

India perches at the top of the points table:

India was able to restrict Sri Lanka to a paltry score of 107 in the 20 overs.

The left-arm orthodox spinner Ekta Bisht scalped two wickets and conceded only 20 runs in her quota of four overs.

Sri Lanka’s Hasini Perera was the lone warrior in the Lankan innings. The batswoman scored an unbeaten 46 to take her team to 107 runs.

Opener Yasoda Mendis chipped in with 27 runs. In fact, other batswomen of the Sri Lanka team didn’t go past double figure mark.

India Women

Mithali RajWell, India cruised to a seven-wicket victory with seven balls to spare.

Former Indian skipper Mithali Raj also became the first Indian batswoman to score 2,000 in Twenty20 Internationals. However, she could only manage 23 runs off 33 balls.

Southpaw Indian opener Smriti Mandhana scored 12 runs from 16 balls. India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur gathered 24 runs from 25 balls.

Furthermore, Veda Krishnamurthy provided the finishing touches to the Indian innings.

The right-handed batter scored a quickfire 29 runs from 23 balls. However, Anuja Patil contributed 19 runs from 16 balls.

India women’s team will now square off with arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9. The final of the competition will be played on June 10.

Interestingly, Indian Women have won all the editions of the Women’s Asia Cup held thus far. Consequently, India will like to defend their title.
