According to Jemimah Rodrigues, the unfortunate dismissal of Harmanpreet Kaur was the turning point in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 semi-final match against Australia, which led to India’s defeat. During a crucial moment in the game, Kaur was run-out in the 15th over due to her bat getting stuck while running to complete two runs.

At the time, India needed 41 runs off 34 deliveries, and Harmanpreet Kaur was on a score of 52 after hitting two boundaries in the same over. Despite India dominating for most of the match, they stumbled towards the end, as Jemimah later reflected. Nevertheless, she assured that all players would put in their best efforts in the future.

In the first innings, Australia elected to bat and scored 172 runs, with Beth Mooney contributing a half-century and Meg Lanning scoring an unbeaten 49. Although India lost three early wickets, they recovered well and were unable to score the required 11 runs in the final over.

Jemimah Rodrigues, who made a rapid 43, is of the opinion that Richa Ghosh has the potential to be the finisher India needs and is confident that the team will be a strong contender in the future.

“We were going well. We had it under control. If you had seen them most of the time, we were above them in every phase. Just the last phase we messed up. But yeah, it’s a tough loss to take.”

“Harman’s dismissal was a very unfortunate one. I don’t know what to say. I don’t think anybody’s happy. Everyone’s disappointed, but at the same time, this is like a learning experience. And I promise you that every single girl is going to work very hard.”

While India will be disappointed with the outcome of the match, the players will be looking forward to the next big thing on the calendar with the Women’s Premier League a matter of weeks away.
