World Cup-Winning Captain Prithvi Shaw Credits His Father For Success
Life could have been so different for Prithvi Shaw had his father focused more on his business instead of making sure that his prodigal son gets the right guidance. Shaw was exposed to the world of cricket when he was enrolled in the Virar cricket academy at just three. However, even before he could start developing, he suffered a personal tragedy at a very young age as his mother died.
But to ensure that Shaw’s cricket career does not derail, his father gave up his business to focus on his son’s cricketing career. The sacrifices have now paid off as Shaw has not only made his father proud but also the whole nation by leading India to the Under-19 World Cup glory.
Shaw became the fourth Indian captain after Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli and Unmukt Chand to lay his hands on the World Cup trophy after India thrashed Australia by nine wickets in the title-decider on Saturday (February 9).
The right-handed batsman along with the whole team has not returned to India and in his first interaction with the media, Shaw credited his father for shaping up his career. Revealing how tough it was for him to go to practice every day, Shaw spoke about the sacrifices his father made for him.
“It wasn’t easy for me as I used to stay in Virar and I thank my dad for taking me everywhere. Credit goes to my dad for my success,” Shaw said on Monday (February 5).
Those were difficult days but when you work hard to get something it is very satisfying. I don’t have the words to express what I am feeling I just want to thank everyone for keeping their trust in me and the team. It is all about the kind of experience you garner over the years, tend to make a difference in the way you play at the top level,” he added.
