Younis Khan, former Pakistan captain, and the newly appointed batting coach has identified tearaway fast bowler Jofra Archer as a major threat for his team in the upcoming Test series against England.
Pakistan men’s cricket team departed for England on Sunday (June 28) where they will lock horns with Joe Root’s men in three Tests and as many Twenty20 Internationals.
Hailing Jofra Archer as a ‘real match-winner’, Younis Khan reckoned that the Barbados-born fast bowler has got strong nerves, something he proved during the 2019 World Cup final where he ended up bowling the Super-Over.
“He (Archer) is a real match-winner and a threat. Archer has strong nerves which he proved while bowling a crucial super over in the World Cup final. He has bite in his bowling and his high arm action is very good and gives him nip in his bowling,” Younis Khan told AFP.

“There is hype around him so that can be an added pressure on him”- Younis Khan on Jofra Archer
But Younis also reckoned that with so much hype around the fast bowler, the pressure of expectations could get the better of Archer. The legendary batsman, who remains the only Pakistani batsman to score 10000 Test runs, also revealed the tips that he has given his batsmen while facing Archer.
“There is hype around him so that can be an added pressure on him. I have told the batsmen to play close to the body and play on the back foot because his in-swinger can be very dangerous.” Younis Khan said.
Younis Khan’s double-hundred was instrumental in Pakistan drawing the 4-match Test series in England four years ago. Khan reminisced about the practice game where he first faced Archer.
“I remember playing him in the side game. He got five wickets in the match but was not on top of his bowling at the time like he is now.” he recalled.
Khan also cautioned his batsman to be wary of the legendary duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
“Anderson and Broad have a wealth of experience. They are always a great pair. Whenever England have won they have the major share, but in August the weather will be dry and not very overcast so they can be handled properly.”He (Archer) is a real match winner and a threat,” he added.
